History
All great ventures first begin with a great vision.
It was such a vision that led Shri Ram Rang Takkar, our Founder and former Chairman, to enter the world of transportation. He began the journey of bringing his vision to life at a time when the country was still young and only just awakening to the potential of multimodal transportation.
He spent the early years of his career in the 1950s understanding the trade and building a sturdy base for what was to come. In the year 1967, he formed his first company named, Bombay Bengal Road Carrier, which transported Indian Explosives Limited’s Chand Chhap Urea. It was this company that later grew in competences and became the Bombay Banaras Transport Company (BBTC) in 1974.
The BBTC Group is now headed by Mr Sanjay Takkar, who under the able guidance of his father, entered the business in the year 1990. Representing the next generation in the transportation business, he swiftly helped the company scale greater heights and achieve unparalleled excellence.
Mr Sanjay Takkar transformed BBTC from a zero truck company to a 275+ truck company, which began operating all over India. He was able to identify the need for a 100% fleet-owned company for this sector, which at the time was still unorganized. Whilst others in the sector were still operating with a single vehicle and undertaking deliveries themselves, Mr Takkar was busy forging ahead to realize his idea of an organized sector with containerized transportation as the norm.

Mr Sanjay Takkar is a seasoned businessman who has been an active player in the industry from a very young age. He is a man of vision, ambition and determination. He revolutionized BBTC by expanding its competences and growing its fleet from 0 to over 275 trucks. It was his commitment to excellence that drove him to build his own fleet so as to take greater responsibility and to reduce the margin of error in transportation. Mrs Sumedha Takkar is a very passionate businesswoman who has devoted the past 25 years of her life to the advancement of the BBTC Group. In particular, she has been involved in improving and upgrading working environments and employee relations. She has also taken on the responsibility of expanding the company’s spectrum of CSR initiatives. She is deeply committed to the company’s growth in terms of sustainability and ensuring the collective good of the society at large. She is personally involved in all the charitable undertakings of the company.

Mr Anirudh Takkar, representing the third generation in the business, recently joined the BBTC Group. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management and Finance from the highly reputed W. P. Carrey School of Business, Arizona State University, USA, where he graduated magna cum laude, that is, ‘with great distinction’. Prior to joining the BBTC Group, he gained valuable business experience while working with international and domestic companies in different sectors such as finance, food and beverage and sale of consumer goods. With all this experience under his belt, Mr Takkar is now all set to lead the BBTC Group into a new era. He envisions a more streamlined system of operation and a further diversification of capabilities, all whilst keeping 100% client satisfaction centre stage.
